In April 1833, students, intellectuals, craftsmen, and exiled Polish officers attacked the guardhouse in Frankfurt am Main, but the army quickly put down the revolt. In response, Austria, Prussia, and Russia renewed the Holy Alliance and stepped up political repression. In 1834, the poet G. Büchner and pastor Friedrich Ludwig Weidig (1791-1837) continued their activities of criticizing the system through leaflets and pamphlets, and published "The Hessian Courier." However, Weidig was arrested, and in the face of the strengthening of the international police network and censorship, open anti-establishment movements in Germany faded into obscurity until 1840. From then on, the movement continued outside Germany, especially in Paris and Switzerland. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Weidig, FL" are listed below.
