…In 1815, they founded the Denishawn School of Dance, where they taught dance based on the theory of French music educator François Delsarte (1811-1871), which emphasized gesture. Graham, D. Humphrey, Charles Weidman (1901-1975), and other pioneers of modern American dance came from this school. Graham in particular was the most influential of them all.
