Artabanus IV (reigned 213-224), who gained independence from Vologeses VI (reigned 207 or 208-228), defeated the Romans at Nisibis in 217, but was defeated and killed in battle by Ardashir I in 224, and in 226 the control of the empire was effectively transferred from Parthia to Sassanid Persia.
