Congestive cardiomyopathy

...A general term for diseases that affect the myocardium and cause cardiac enlargement and hypertrophy. Those with an unknown cause are called idiopathic cardiomyopathy, and those with a clear connection to a diagnosed systemic disease are called special myocardial diseases (previously called secondary cardiomyopathy). However, since the latter can be referred to by the name of the systemic disease, in most cases the term cardiomyopathy refers to idiopathic cardiomyopathy. In Japan, this disease is attracting attention because it occurs relatively young, in people in their 20s and 40s, accounts for 3-15% of all heart diseases, is not necessarily rare, and although the cause is unknown, it can occur in families or can begin with cold-like symptoms, and can also cause sudden death.

…心筋を侵し心臓拡大，心臓肥大をきたす疾患の総称。原因不明のものを特発性心筋症idiopathic cardiomyopathy，診断がついた全身性疾患との関連が明らかなものを特殊な心筋疾患(従来，続発性心筋症といわれていた)と呼ぶ。しかし後者は全身性疾患名を用いればよいので，多くの場合，心筋症という言葉は特発性心筋症を指していう。本疾患は日本では比較的若年の20～40歳代に発症し，全心臓疾患の3～15％と必ずしもまれな疾患でないこと，原因不明とはいうものの家族性に発症したり，感冒様症状から発病してくる場合があること，さらに急死の原因になることなどから，注目されている疾患である。…
