A mountain in the Southern Alps in southeast central New Zealand. In Maori, it is called Aorangi, meaning "piercing the clouds." Its sharp peak was formed by glacial erosion. It is the highest mountain in New Zealand, with an elevation of 3,754m. It is one of the main tourist destinations in the South Island, and many visitors come to see skiing and glaciers (such as the Tasman Glacier).
