When alētheia was translated into Latin as veritas, the negative character of the experience of truth contained in the prefix a was decisively lost, and in medieval scholastic philosophy, truth was defined as the agreement between the intellect and things, adaequatio, and was consistently viewed from the perspective of agreement or correspondence.
