Islands distributed in the northeast of New Guinea. They belong to the Bismarck Islands, with Manus Island being the largest, and 16 other small islands scattered around. Before World War I, they were part of Germany, and now they are part of Papua New Guinea. Copra and pearl oysters are the main products. Lorengau on the northeast coast of Manus Island is the main settlement. The area is 1,943 km2 . The population of Manus Island is 60,485 (2011).
