A copper coin from the Goryeo Dynasty in Korea. The first minted currency in Korea is said to be the Kengen Choho coin of 996, but later, at the end of the 10th century, the government established a mint office to issue silver coins and minted 1,500 kan of Haedong Tongbo coins, which were distributed to officials for circulation. It is circular with a square hole in the center and the four characters Haedong Tongbo engraved on the top, bottom, left and right. Haedong means Korea. Around this time, several types of iron and copper coins, such as the Samhan Tongbo and the Samguk Tongbo, were issued, but they did not become widespread nationwide.
