Cianjur (English spelling)
A small city at the foot of Mount Gede (2,958m above sea level) in western Java, Indonesia. It has an estimated population of 70,000 to 80,000. It is located 90km southeast of Jakarta and 60km west of Bandung. It is the capital of the same-named regency in West Java (population 1.39 million as of 1980). The surrounding area is a grain-producing region that produces high-quality Cianjur rice, and it is a beautiful highland city, but the main stores are run by Chinese. It is said to be the birthplace of the Sundanese folk song Cianjuran, and is also a place where Sundanese culture is passed down. The ruins of the Hindu Tanjung Singguru dynasty are also located nearby.
