...During this primitive tribal period, Finland became a battleground between the two great powers of the East and the West.

In 1155, Swedish King Eric IX (?-1160) marched into Finland under the name of the Northern Crusades and established a base in Turku. Bishop Henry, who accompanied the king, established the foundation of the Catholic faith in Finland.
