Ledda, G. (English spelling) LeddaG

Giuseppe Dessi (1909-77), who, like Rousse, was from the Cagliari area, published novels that traced Proustian memories before the Second World War, but after the liberation he turned to a realist style, depicting the Sardinian climate and the conflicts in people's hearts in works such as "The Sparrow" (1953) and "Land of Shadows" (1972). Also, Gavino Ledda (1938- ), an up-and-coming writer who was born the son of an illiterate shepherd but grew up to become a linguist, wrote "Padre Padrone" (1975) and "The Sickle's Word" (1977), bringing to light the reality that the island and its inhabitants still face complex problems. On the other hand, the most important works that analyze and turn Sardinia into literature by shedding light on it from the outside, rather than from the inside, are D.H. Lawrence's Sardinia by the Sea (1921) and E. Vittorini's Sardinia as Childhood (1952).
