This former town in Saiki District occupies the southern part of Nomi Island in the southern part of Hiroshima Prefecture. The main settlement, Oobara, is on the west coast, and the small fishing ports of Kakinoura and Okimi are on the east coast. Mandarin oranges, flowers, and vegetables are cultivated, and oysters are farmed. In November 2004, it merged with Etajima Town in Aki District, and Nomi Town and Okimi Town in Saiki District, to become a city, Etajima City. 26.57 km2 . 9,201 people (2003).
