They said that there are two types of substances that induce cell division at the wounded site: one that comes from the wounded cell itself (wound hormone) and one that comes from the vascular bundle (leptohormone). In 1927, B. Wehnelt, a student of Haberlandt, discovered a biological method to quantify this hormone by removing seeds from immature kidney bean pods and applying a sample liquid to the inside of the pod, which causes the pod to rise.
