Leptohormone

… In 1892, J. Wiesner hypothesized the existence of such a hormone in plants, but experimental evidence was provided by G. Haberlandt and others after 1921. They said that there are two types of substances that induce cell division at the wounded site: one that comes from the wounded cell itself (wound hormone) and one that comes from the vascular bundle (leptohormone). In 1927, B. Wehnelt, a student of Haberlandt, discovered a biological method to quantify this hormone by removing seeds from immature kidney bean pods and applying a sample liquid to the inside of the pod, which causes the pod to rise. Since then, research into isolating and identifying the substance has progressed rapidly. …
