Mixed Arbitral Tribunal

Japanese: 混合仲裁裁判所 - こんごうちゅうさいさいばんしょ（英語表記）Mixed Arbitral Tribunal

This court was established by the peace treaty of World War I to hear private law claims of victorious nations arising from war. It attracted attention as a court where victims of damages inflicted by Germany on victorious nations could file claims for compensation and appeal to arbitration. Also known as the Mixed Claims Subcommittee or Mixed Arbitration Commission, the Mixed Arbitration Courts established bilaterally between the Allied Powers and Germany were well known. Its notable features were that it was a permanent court that continued in existence until a series of cases were resolved, and that individuals were given the right to sue directly.

戦争によって生じた戦勝国民の私法上の請求権について審理する裁判所で，第1次世界大戦の講和条約によって設けられ，ドイツが戦勝国民に与えた損害について被害者個人が賠償要求を提起し，仲裁裁判に訴える裁判所として注目された。混合請求小委員会あるいは混合仲裁委員会とも呼ばれ，連合国とドイツなどとの間にそれぞれ2国間ごとに設置された混合仲裁裁判所が著名である。一連の事件が解決するまで存続した常設裁判所であったこと，および個人が直接に出訴権を認められたことに大きな特色がある。
