Accounting General - Kaikei Sosai

Japanese: 会計総裁 - かいけいそうさい

The highest position in the Shogunate's finances at the end of the Edo period. One of the five general directors that Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu established as part of the Shogunate government reforms on the advice of French envoy Roches. Previously, the accounting affairs were managed by the senior councilors, who took turns each month, but on May 12, 1867 (Keio 3), Matsudaira Suo no Kami Yasuhide was appointed general director of the kitchen office and, as a senior councilor in charge of accounting, he was called general director of accounting. After that, Tachibana Izumo no Kami Taneyaka, Okubo Ichio no Tadahiro, and Yamaguchi Suruga no Kami Naoki held the position. After the establishment of the new Meiji government, the position was abolished in January 1868 with the promulgation and revision of the official regulations in leap April.

江戸末期の幕府財政の最高職。フランス公使ロッシュの助言で将軍徳川慶喜が幕政改革の一環として置いた五総裁の一つ。従来，会計事務の統轄は老中が月番交代で担当していたが，1867年(慶応3)5月12日，松平周防守康英が御勝手御入用掛総裁に任じられ，会計専任老中として会計総裁と称した。以後，立花出雲守種恭，大久保一翁忠寛，山口駿河守直毅が歴任した。明治新政府成立後，68年1月，閏4月の官制発布と改正で廃止された。
