Liberal arts college is a general term for private four-year universities that teach a wide range of academic subjects in a broad and shallow manner rather than providing specialized and practical education, and aim to provide a holistic education, that is, to cultivate people with a broad perspective and a rich culture. There are about 600 liberal arts colleges across the United States, and they form the core of American university education.
