...A species of antelope with remarkably elongated limbs and neck, reminiscent of a small giraffe (illustration). The name Gerenuk means "giraffe neck" in Somali. A mammal of the Bovidae family in the order Artiodactyla. Compared to the body, the head, especially the jaw area, is small, and males have well-built horns 32-44 cm long that curve backward at first and then extend upward. The body color is reddish brown all over except for the white underside. However, the back is dark, creating a contrast with the light-colored sides of the body. The large eyes are surrounded by white.
