A city on the west coast of Suruga Bay in southern Shizuoka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1951. It occupies the northeastern part of the Oigawa alluvial fan and the low marshes downstream of the Setogawa River. Yaizu Port is known as a base for deep-sea tuna and bonito fishing, which has one of the largest catch volumes in the country. In addition to shipping fresh fish nationwide, the seafood processing industry has developed, producing products such as tsukudani, canned goods, and bonito flakes. Pharmaceuticals, beverages such as beer, and machinery industries are also thriving. The Tokaido Main Line runs through the city, and there is the Yaizu Interchange on the Tomei Expressway. Oigawa Town, Shida District, was incorporated in November 2008. Area: 70.31 km2 .
