Lyngbya

...The cell filaments have the property of violently swaying, which is where the Japanese name comes from, and the scientific name also means "swaying." The similar blue-green algae Spirulina is distinguished by its spirally wound cell filaments, Phormidium by its mucilaginous sheath around the cell filaments, and Lyngbya by its hard sheath. The body of Trichodesmium, which grows in the sea and sometimes proliferates in large numbers, causing red tides, is made up of many entangled cell filaments with the same structure as Oscillaria.
