Ayase [city] - Ayase

Japanese: 綾瀬[市] - あやせ

A city in the central Kanagawa Prefecture, in the southern part of the Sagamihara Plateau. It was incorporated as a city in 1978. It used to be a silkworm-raising region with many mulberry fields, but since the 1960s, it has been developed into residential areas. Suburban agriculture such as pig farming, poultry farming, and vegetable cultivation is also practiced. It is also a military town, with the Atsugi Air Base, a US military air base, which occupies one third of the city's area and stretches to the neighboring city of Yamato to the east, and so it has various problems such as noise. Industrialization is progressing around the main roads. 22.14 ^km2 . Population: 83,167 (2010).

神奈川県中部，相模原台地南部にある市。1978年市制。かつては養蚕地帯で桑園が多かったが，昭和40年代以降宅地化が進んだ。養豚，養鶏，野菜栽培などの近郊農業も行われる。東隣の大和市にかけて市域面積の３分の１を占める米軍航空基地の厚木飛行場があり，基地の町でもあって，騒音など様々な問題を抱えている。主要道路周辺では工業化が進んでいる。22.14km²。８万3167人（2010）。
