A province in northwest China. Its capital is Xining. It is located in the northeast of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with most of the province at an altitude of over 3,000m. The Qilian and Altun Mountains are in the north, the Qaidam Basin and the Qinghai Basin are in the south, and the Kunlun and Bayanhala Mountains run further south, while the Tanggula Mountains run east to west on the southern border. It is the source of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River. It has a cold climate and little precipitation. Transportation is mainly by road, with the Ganqing-Qinghai-Qingxin-Dunge Highway and other highways in operation, and the Lanqing Railway (Lanzhou-Xining) and the Qinghai-Tibet Railway (Xining-Lhasa) connecting the province. Livestock farming is the most developed, and there are many yaks as well as sheep. There are abundant underground resources such as coal, iron, and petroleum. Industries include oil refining, wool weaving, and livestock processing. The ethnic composition is Han Chinese (around 50%), as well as Tibetans, Mongolians, Kazakhs, etc. Area: 721,200 ^km2 . 中国北西部の省。簡称は青。省都は西寧。青蔵高原の北東部にあり大部分が標高3000m以上，北部に祁連(きれん)山脈，アルトゥン山脈，その南にチャイダム盆地と青海盆地があり，さらに南に崑崙(こんろん)山脈，巴顔喀喇(バヤンハラ)山脈，南境に唐古拉(タングラ)山脈が東西に走る。黄河，長江の水源地。気候は寒冷で，降水量は少ない。交通は自動車道路が主で甘青・青蔵・青新・敦格公路などが開通し，鉄道は蘭青鉄路（蘭州〜西寧），青蔵鉄路（西寧〜ラサ）が通じている。牧畜が最も発達し羊のほかヤクも多い。地下資源には石炭，鉄，石油などが豊富である。工業には製油，毛織，畜産加工などがある。民族構成は漢族（50％前後）のほか，チベット族，モンゴル族，カザフ族など。72万1200km²。566万人（2014）。
