…Foreigners, especially the Dutch, were active in the 17th century, and they were particularly known for their sculpture. Nicolai Eigtved (1701-54), famous for his Fredensborg Castle, contributed greatly to the establishment of 18th century architectural style and design. The Danish School of Fine Arts opened in 1754 with the French sculptor Sully as its director, and became the driving force behind the subsequent development of Danish art. …
