Mawlay al-Rasid (English spelling)

...Based on the development of saint worship and the rise of the anti-foreign jihad (holy war) consciousness against Portugal and Spain, the state was founded in Tafilalat (1631) with Muhammad al-Sharif as sultan, and in 1640, Muhammad bin Muhammad of the Alawite dynasty was recognized as king including the surrounding area. In 66, Moulay al-Rashid conquered Fes and unified Morocco with it as the capital. Moulay Ismā'īl (reigned 1672-1727) organized the black slave army al-Bukhārī and boasted a powerful military force, while he moved the capital to Meknes, established the national organization, and achieved the height of his prosperity.
