Accounting books - kaikeichobo

In a broad sense, it means a book that records accounting, but in a narrow sense, it is a book that the Commercial Code and the Companies Act require the creation of. The Commercial Code and the Companies Act require merchants and joint-stock companies to create accounting books and keep them for 10 years from the time of closing the books, as stipulated in the Ministry of Justice Ordinance (Corporate Accounting Regulations) (Commercial Code, Article 19; Companies Act, Article 432).

However, the Commercial Code and the Companies Act do not prescribe the specific format or type of accounting books. Therefore, they will be interpreted according to the generally accepted practice of corporate accounting. In corporate accounting, assuming double-entry bookkeeping, main books such as journals and ledgers are used, and auxiliary books such as cash ledgers, sales ledgers, and purchase ledgers are used as necessary. Therefore, these books are considered to be included in accounting books.

広義には会計を記録する帳簿を意味するが、狭義には商法・会社法がその作成を要求している帳簿である。商法・会社法は、商人・株式会社に対して法務省令（会社計算規則）に定めるところにより、会計帳簿の作成と帳簿閉鎖のときから10年間の保存を定めている（商法19条、会社法432条）。

　しかし、商法・会社法は、会計帳簿の具体的な様式や種類を定めてはいない。したがって、それについては一般に公正妥当と認められている企業会計の慣行に従って解釈されることになろう。企業会計においては、複式簿記を前提とすれば、仕訳帳や元帳といった主要簿と、さらに必要に応じて現金出納帳や売上帳、仕入帳などの補助簿が用いられている。したがって、これらの帳簿が会計帳簿に含まれると解される。
