…The three violin concertos (BWV1041-43), the Brandenburg Concertos, which he dedicated to the Margrave of Brandenburg in 1721, the Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin (BWV1001-06), and the Cello Suites (BWV1007-12) were particularly outstanding works. In July 1720, his wife Maria Barbara died of an illness, and Bach, who had a young child, remarried the following December to Anna Magdalena, a soprano singer 16 years his junior. He had seven children with the former and 13 with the latter, and although about half died in infancy, five of the six boys who reached adulthood became musicians. …
