Musashi Hills Forest Park

Japanese: 武蔵丘陵森林公園 - むさしきゅうりょうしんりんこうえん
Musashi Hills Forest Park

This national park is located in central Saitama Prefecture, straddling Namegawa-machi, Hiki-gun and Kumagaya-shi. It was constructed by the Ministry of Construction (now the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) in 1967 as part of the Meiji Centennial Commemoration Project, and opened in 1974 as the first national park in Japan. It is located on the slopes of the Hiki Hills, stretching about 4 km north to south and 1 km east to west, covering an area of about 304 hectares and at an elevation of 40 to 90 meters. It was created by making skillful use of forests of red pine, zelkova, oak and other trees that are unique to the hills, reservoirs, and rice paddies. The park has 27 hectares of open space and 10 hectares of sparse forest, as well as flower beds, waterfalls, fountains, restaurants, shops and other facilities, and is connected by roads that stretch for a total of 41 kilometers. There is also a cycling road that stretches for about 17 kilometers, allowing people to cycle around the park.
