The origin of newspapers is generally considered to be the publication of the minutes of the Senate as "acta senatus" and the resolutions of the people's assemblies as "acta populi" (acta diurna), ordered by Caesar when he became consul of Rome in 59 BC. These were, so to speak, a kind of official bulletin, and were merely similar to newspapers.
