Ansermet

Japanese: アンセルメ
Ansermet
Swiss conductor and music theorist. Born in Vevey, a French-speaking town on the shores of Lake Geneva. He studied mathematics at the Universities of Lausanne and Paris, while also studying conducting under Bloch in Geneva. After working as a mathematics teacher, he became a conductor at the age of 27. He formed friendships with Stravinsky and Diaghilev, and became the conductor of the Ballets Russes in 1915. Until the company was dissolved following Diaghilev's death, he conducted the premieres of many ballets, including Stravinsky's Pulcinella and The Wedding, Satie's Parade, and Falla's The Three-Cornered Hat. He also founded the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in 1918, and served as its principal conductor until 1967, developing the orchestra into a world-class institution. His clear and colorful sound, which earned him the trust of contemporary composers, has had a major influence on subsequent conductors and performers. He first came to Japan in 1964.
