al-'Aziz

Japanese: アジーズ(英語表記)al‐‘Azīz
al-'Aziz
955‐996
The fifth caliph of the Fatimid dynasty. Reigned 975-996. He succeeded his father, Mu'izz, as caliph. His reign was the period when the Fatimid dynasty was at its greatest size and Egypt was at its most prosperous. In domestic affairs, he employed Jews and Christians as bureaucrats, as typified by the vizier Ibn Killis (930-991), and brought economic prosperity to Egypt. In foreign affairs, his main activity was the pacification of Syria as a base for fighting against the Byzantine Empire and the Abbasid Caliphate.
