…In the same year, he was nominated by the Democratic Party and elected Governor of New Jersey, where he achieved remarkable reform results such as direct elections, strengthened corporate regulations, and workers' compensation laws, attracting national attention. In 1912, he became the Democratic presidential candidate, running on a platform of "New Freedom," which advocated suppressing monopolies and restoring free opportunities to the people, and took advantage of a split in the Republican Party to win the election. As president, he demonstrated strong leadership, bringing together the reform movement that had been in place since the beginning of the century, including tariff reductions, reform of the banking system through the Federal Reserve Act (1913), monopoly regulation through the Clayton Act (1914) and the Federal Trade Commission Act (1914), and protection of workers and farmers. …
