Wang Hong-xu (English: Wang Hung-hsü)

A Chinese scholar and politician in the early Qing Dynasty. Born in Lou County (Songjiang County, Jiangsu Province). His courtesy name was Jiyou. His pen names were Banzai and Hengyun Shanren. He was a Jinshi in 1673 (the 12th year of the Kangxi era). He was promoted from editor of the Hanlin Academy to a lecturer, and in 1681 he became the director of the compilation of the Ming History. He was later disgraced in a bribery scandal, but eventually returned to his position as Minister of Works, and in 1682 he became Minister of Household Affairs. He was soon caught up in a movement to support the prince, and retired from the government. He returned to his hometown to compile the Ming History, completing the Draft Ming History (310 volumes) in 1723 (the 1st year of the Yongzheng era).

中国，清初の学者，政治家。婁県 (江蘇省松江県) の人。字は季友。号は儼斎，横雲山人。康煕 12 (1673) 年の進士。翰林院編修から侍講となり，同 21年明史編纂の総裁となる。のち収賄事件で失脚したが，やがて工部尚書に返り咲き，同 47年戸部尚書となった。しかしまもなく皇子の擁立運動に巻込まれて引退し，郷里にあって明史の編修に従事し，雍正1 (1723) 年『明史稿』 (310巻) を完成した。
