An industrial city on the west coast of Spencer Gulf, 74 km southwest of Port Augusta, in the southeastern part of South Australia, Australia. It originated in 1902 as a port for shipping iron ore from Iron Monarch as a solvent for lead smelting at Port Pirie, and later became a shipping port for iron ore for the steel industry in New South Wales. It has now developed into a heavy industrial city that not only ships iron ore, but also produces steel, ships, and generators. Located in an arid region, water is supplied from the Murray River via a 374 km pipeline. Population: 25,740 (1991 estimate).

オーストラリア，サウスオーストラリア州南東部，ポートオーガスタ南西 74kmのスペンサー湾西岸にある工業都市。 1902年にポートピリーでの鉛精錬の溶剤としてアイアンモナークからの鉄鉱石を積出したのが起源で，その後ニューサウスウェールズ州の鉄鋼業への鉄鉱石積出港となった。現在は鉄鉱石積出しだけでなく鉄鋼，船舶，発電機を生産する重工業都市として発展している。乾燥地帯にあり，水は 374kmのパイプラインでマレー川から供給される。人口2万 5740 (1991推計) 。
