An abbreviation of on-the-job training. Training employees in the workplace while they are performing their duties. It is also called shop training, workplace guidance, or job guidance. In the education and training system, it is contrasted with collective education (off JT). OJT is a method that was adopted after realizing that collective education could only train basic and general matters, and training is carried out by workplace superiors and senior employees providing guidance and advice. A somewhat more standardized version is the sponsor system, in which each new employee is assigned a specific senior employee (sponsor), who is responsible for training the new employee. OJT is mainly carried out for manual laborers, but can also be applied to managerial and professional positions. on-the-job trainingの略。
