OJT - OJT

An abbreviation of on-the-job training. Training employees in the workplace while they are performing their duties. It is also called shop training, workplace guidance, or job guidance. In the education and training system, it is contrasted with collective education (off JT). OJT is a method that was adopted after realizing that collective education could only train basic and general matters, and training is carried out by workplace superiors and senior employees providing guidance and advice. A somewhat more standardized version is the sponsor system, in which each new employee is assigned a specific senior employee (sponsor), who is responsible for training the new employee. OJT is mainly carried out for manual laborers, but can also be applied to managerial and professional positions.

on-the-job trainingの略。職場にいる従業員を職務遂行の過程で訓練すること。職場訓練shop training、職場指導、職務上指導などともいう。教育訓練体系では、集合教育off J.T.（off-the-job training）と対照される。OJTは、集合教育では基本的、一般的事項しか訓練できないとの反省からとられるようになった方法であり、職場の上司や先輩が指導、助言を与える形で訓練が行われる。やや定型化したものとしては、新従業員各人に特定の先輩従業員（スポンサー）を割り当て、スポンサーが新従業員の訓練に責任をもつスポンサー・システムがある。OJTは主として作業職についてなされるが、管理職や専門職にも適用可能である。
