This is a highland settlement site from the middle to late Yayoi period, located on the summit of Mt. Shiudeyama (352m) in Ohama, Takuma-cho, Mitoyo-gun, Kagawa Prefecture. Located at the highest point in the central Misaki Peninsula, it occupies a strategic location with a panoramic view of the Hiuchi Nada Sea from the Bisan Strait. It was discovered in 1947 and excavated in 1955-57, and a small shell mound was found in part of the inclusion layer widely distributed on the summit, as well as stone remains that are thought to be the remains of a dwelling. Along with a large amount of pottery, an abundance of chipped stone tools such as stone arrowheads, stone spears, stone awls, and stone knives were also discovered, as well as ground stone axes, concave stones, and stone awls. Other items found included weight-shaped earthenware products, shell rings, pieces of ironware, and horn tools. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
