It is a dialect of Low German brought to England by the Germanic peoples Jutes, Angles, and Saxons who migrated to England in large numbers from continental Europe, especially from Jutland and the lower Elbe region, from the mid-5th century. It overcame the languages of the indigenous Celtic peoples and became the main language of England.
