Wu Yun (English name)

A Taoist priest of the Tang Dynasty in China. Born in Huayin (Dali County, Shaanxi Province). His pen name was Zhongyue Taoist, and his posthumous name was Zongyuan Sensei. During the Tianbao era of Emperor Xuanzong (742-755), he studied under Pan Shizheng of Mount Song and became a Taoist priest. He was summoned by Emperor Xuanzong, who loved Taoism, and became a Hanlin Taizheng, but he was shunned by the eunuch Gao Lishi and other Buddhist forces, and during the An Lushan Rebellion, he retired to Maoshan and then to Kuaiji. He was also famous as a man of letters, and was on friendly terms with Kong Sufu and Li Bai. In addition to the 20 volumes of the Zongyuan Collection, he wrote works such as Xuangang and The Disciples of Immortals.

中国，唐代の道士。華陰(陝西省大茘県)の人。号を中嶽道士，諡（おくりな）を宗元先生という。玄宗の天宝年間(742‐755)，嵩山（すうざん）の潘師正に師事して道士となった。道教を好む玄宗に召されて翰林待詔となったが，宦官高力士をはじめ仏教勢力に忌まれ，安史の乱中，茅山さらに会稽へ隠棲した。文人としても名声があり孔巣父，李白などと親交があった。《宗元集》20巻のほか《玄綱》《神仙可学論》などの撰述がある。
