An annual plant of the Chenopodiaceae family. A naturalized plant said to be native to tropical America, it is a weed in urban areas. The stems are highly branched, about 70 cm tall, and the entire plant is hairy and smells bad. The leaves are narrowly ovate, alternate, and have wavy sawtooth. From July to October, small green stalkless flowers bloom in clusters at the base of the leaf follicle. There are three tepals and five stamens. The seeds are black-brown, lenticular, and shiny. The plant with little hair overall is called 'Ambrosia', but there are a series of variants that make it difficult to distinguish between them. An anthelmintic agent is taken from the stems and leaves. The variant, 'Ambrosia', is almost hairless and contains more anthelmintic ingredients.
