The indigenous people who lived on Tierra del Fuego were collectively called the Fuegians, and consisted of three tribes: the Yaghan, the Alacaluf, and the Ona. All were hunter-gatherers, but the first two lived on the coast, depended mainly on seaweed, shellfish, fish, and marine animals for food, and used canoes made from bark, so they were also called the Canoe Indians.
