He founded the International Society for the History of Science (1928) and became its president (1950), and also published the world-renowned journals on the history of science, Isis (quarterly) and Osiris (irregularly), laying the basic conditions for the history of science to be established as a field of study. His major works include the magnum opus, Introduction to the History of Science (3 volumes, 1927-47), History of Science and the New Humanism (1931), The Life of Science (1948), and History of Science (2 volumes, 1952, 59), among many others. …
