…His aim was to study the history of science from the standpoint of scientific humanism. He founded the International Society for the History of Science (1928) and became its president (1950), and also published the world-renowned journals on the history of science, Isis (quarterly) and Osiris (irregularly), laying the basic conditions for the history of science to be established as a field of study. His major works include the magnum opus, Introduction to the History of Science (3 volumes, 1927-47), History of Science and the New Humanism (1931), The Life of Science (1948), and History of Science (2 volumes, 1952, 59), among many others. …
