Mure [village] - Mure

Japanese: 牟礼[村] - むれ

A village in Kamiminochi County in northern Nagano Prefecture. Population 7,526 (1995). Located north of Nagano City, a gentle plateau spreads out on the eastern foot of Mt. Iizuna (1,917m). The central settlement, Mure, was a town that was a post town on the Hokkoku Waki-Okan route in the early modern period. The JR Shinetsu Main Line and National Route 18 run along the Torii River, a tributary of the Chikuma River, and the town is well connected to Nagano City, so there are many commuters to the city. Apples and rice are cultivated here, but the town still has a strong rural feel to it. Tourism development is underway on the plateau, with a ski resort at the center.

長野県北部，上水内（かみみのち）郡の村。人口7526(1995)。長野市の北に位置し，飯縄山(1917m)の東麓になだらかな高原が広がる。中心集落の牟礼は，近世に北国脇往還の宿場町であった街村。千曲川支流の鳥居川沿いにJR信越本線，国道18号線が走り，長野市との連絡がよいため同市への通勤者が多い。リンゴ栽培と米作が行われるが，長野市の近郊農村的色彩が強い。高原ではスキー場を中心に観光開発が進められている。
