…An ancient city located in eastern Syria, on the west bank of the middle Euphrates River, about 11 km upstream from Abu Kamal. Its modern name is Tell Hariri. In 1933, a sculpture was accidentally discovered, which led Frenchman A. Parrot to continue excavations and discover that the ruins were Mari, which is recorded as the location of the 10th kingship after the Great Flood in the Sumerian King List, and that the Akkadians lived there. This not only greatly expanded the Sumerian-Akkadian world in the Early Dynastic Period to the northwest, but also resulted in a major change in the date of the accession of Hammurapi of the First Babylonian Dynasty, which was thought to be around 2100 BC based on the excavated tablets, to 1792 BC or 1728 BC. …
