The time it takes for radio waves or electrical signals to pass through a transmission system. The speed at which radio waves travel in the air is approximately 300,000 km per second. For example, in satellite communications using geostationary satellites, the propagation delay time for radio waves sent from the transmitting station to be relayed and reflected by the satellite and arrive at the receiving station is approximately 240 ms to 270 ms. In a system operating synchronously, differences in the propagation times of the components can cause the system to malfunction. The propagation time of a digital gate is approximately 25 to 100 ns for a MOS type. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
