E Corona - Good Corona

...The light of the outer corona also includes a portion that is produced when fine dust between the Sun and the Earth scatters sunlight, and this is sometimes called the F corona. The inner corona also emits emission lines (called the E corona), but these lines cannot be identified with the spectra of any substances on Earth, and were initially thought to be emission lines from elements unique to the Sun that do not exist on Earth. In the 1930s, however, it was discovered that these were from highly ionized ions such as iron and calcium, ionized 9 to 13 times, and the surprising fact was discovered that the corona has a high temperature of 1 to 2 million K. This was later supported and confirmed in the 1950s by the discovery that the corona emits thermal radio waves equivalent to 1 to 2 million K.
