peri poiētikēs (English spelling)

… In Europe, there has been a tradition of poetics or literary creation theory since Aristotle, but in the early 20th century in Russia, without any direct or concrete influence from that tradition, the formalists began to study “poetic language” or the “poetic function” of language from a completely new perspective, first viewing literary works as a single linguistic world and then attempting to elucidate works through an integrated study of the “method” and structure of that language (expression) at various levels. [The Aristotelian poetics tradition]
Aristotle's Poetics (originally titled peri poiētikēs (On Poetry)), which is known today as a single work, is said to have been a lecture he gave to his students on a kind of literary theory or creative theory, with Greek tragedies (specifically Oedipus Rex, etc.) and Greek epics (specifically the Iliad and the Odyssey, etc.) in mind. It is said to have been composed of notes from the lectures and notes from listeners, forming a single work consisting of 26 chapters. The contents of the work include the theory of mimesis, which claims that the origin of art is the human instinct to imitate, a theory of tragedy, including the famous theory of catharsis (purification), and a theory of epic poetry, but the main focus of the work is on tragedy.
