An area in the eastern part of Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Formerly Tsunezumi Village, Higashiibaraki County. Incorporated into Mito City in 1992 (Heisei 4). The old village name comes from the medieval Tsunetomi district. It is located in the lowlands downstream of the Naka River and Hinuma River, with some parts being plateaus. The Kashima Coastal Railway Oarai-Kashima Line, National Routes 51 and 245, and the Higashi-Mito Toll Road pass through the area. Development progressed from the end of the Heian period, and after passing through the control of the Daijo and Satake clans, it became part of the Mito Domain. It is a rice-growing area known for its early-season rice, but vegetable cultivation has increased. It is home to the Ogushikaizuka Shell Mound, a nationally designated historic site, and Rokujizo Temple, which has many prefecturally designated cultural properties.
