...Its origins date back to ancient times, and when the custom of using the "Tale of Soga" as a spring kyogen play in Edo Kabuki became a ritual, many similar works were produced. However, only two works are still performed today under the name "Kusazuribiki": the Nagauta "Kikuju no Kusazuri" (commonly known as "Seishuji", composed by Kineya Shojiro I), first performed at the Edo Kiri-za Theater in January 1787 (Tenmei 7), and the Nagauta "Shou Fudatsuki Kongen Kusazuribiki" (commonly known as "Seishuji", composed by Kineya Rokusaburo IV), first performed at the Edo Morita-za Theater in January 1814 (Bunka 11). The former was taught at the beginning of dance training as an introduction to rough arts, and was performed on stage by children. ...
