A collection of Okinawa's ancient folk songs. 22 volumes in total. Divine songs from Okinawa and the Amami Islands were collected and compiled by the Shuri royal court. The collection includes 1,554 songs, but the actual number, excluding duplicates, is 1,248. Volume 1 was compiled in 1531 (10th year of the Jiajing era), volume 2 in 1613 (41st year of the Wanli era), and volumes 3 and onwards in 1623 (3rd year of the Tenkei era), but there are no dates listed for volumes 11, 14, 17, and 22, so the dates are unknown. The writing is in hiragana mixed with kanji, but a unique method of writing Okinawan is used. The original was lost in a fire at Shuri Castle in 1709, and in 1710, two copies were rewritten from the version handed down in the Gushikawa family and given to the Aniya family, who were the royal palace and Omoro Nushidori (a position that oversaw everything related to Omoro sung at the royal court). The current Shoke version (an Important Cultural Property) is the only copy that was handed down to the royal palace. All other extant versions are copies of the Aniya version. There is the "Collated Omoro Soushi" (compiled by Nakahara Yoshitada and Tokama Moriyoshi, 1965, Kadokawa Shoten), which uses the Aniya-line Nakayoshi version as the basis and collates the Shoke version and other versions.
