Yabuiri (into the bush) - Yabuiri

Japanese: やぶ入り(藪入り) - やぶいり
Yabuiri (into the bush) - Yabuiri
Among Edo townspeople, this was a holiday on the 16th of January and July when servants working for merchants were given time off to go home. Servants would receive clothes and pocket money from their masters when they returned home, and on this day they would visit various Enma-do temples or go to see plays that were based on the phrase "yabuiri." There are many theories about the origin of the word "yabuiri," and it is not settled. One theory is that it is a corrupted form of "yado-sagari," and another is that it is a kanji translating "yabou" (adoptive father) or "jou-jitsu-iri." However, it is easy to imagine that people who lived in cities used "yabu" (bush) to describe the countryside.
