Rice blast (rice fever)

Rice blast (rice fever)
A disease caused by the rice blast fungus parasitizing plants. It is the most common disease of rice, occurring on ears, leaves, and stems and causing great damage. Combating rice blast has been a major challenge for rice cultivation, especially in mountainous and northern regions. Reflecting this situation, it is the disease that has been most frequently and intensively studied in the field of plant pathology in Japan. The first record of this disease in Japan is said to be in 1679 (Enpo 7) in the "Eiroku Since Our Hospital Records Annual" (Koshakuin Yueisho), but the later entry in "Kouka Shunju" (around 1707) is widely known.
