In the Muromachi and Edo periods, this position was a liaison between the Imperial Court and temples and shrines on matters related to temples and shrines, and was held concurrently by the court nobles. In the Muromachi period, Inari, Nanto, Daitokuji, etc. were placed separately, and in the Edo period, one person oversaw several shrines and temples, but Ise, Kamo, and Iwashimizu were placed separately. 〘名〙 (「じしゃでんそう」とも) 公家の職制の一つ。室町・江戸時代、寺社に関する諸事について、朝廷と寺社の間の連絡にあたった役職で、公卿の兼職。室町時代には、稲荷・南都・大徳寺など別々に置かれ、江戸時代には、数社寺を一人で統轄したが、伊勢・賀茂・石清水は別に置いた。社寺伝奏。〔京都御役所向大概覚書(1714‐18頃)〕
